*Updates* – Scriptaweek https://scriptaweek.com Writing a new script every week Fri, 10 Aug 2018 21:08:23 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.4.3 UPDATE: On Assignment https://scriptaweek.com/update-on-assignment/ Wed, 19 Jun 2013 16:28:03 +0000 https://scriptaweek.com/?p=1801 Hello wonderful scriptaweekers!

First of all, I apologize for my absence.  I should have updated sooner, but things have just been crazy.  As per the previous update, I took a bit of a hiatus from writing, because my mind just needed a break after completing 52 scripts in 52 weeks!   Oh, the joys of a reboot…   In reflecting on the process, I learned that it really wasn’t the difficulty of writing so many physical pages that inevitably tired me out – it was switching each and every week.  Ha, that or keeping track of hundreds and hundreds of characters!  Yikes.  Nonetheless, I would not have traded the experience in for anything – it taught me how much I could push myself as a writer.

Anyway, on to the point of my post…. as luck would have it, I was approached for a screenwriting assignment, and I have been hard at work!  I am super excited about the project, and I look forward to sharing information about it when the production company is good and ready.

In the meantime, hopefully there’s still plenty of content on the site to enjoy.  If you’ve read every single entry, please email me, because honestly – you deserve a medal!  …and a job as a hollywood reader.

Lastly, in some other exciting news, multiple illustrative projects (comic books & kids books) that I wrote for this site are actually in production, and I cannot wait to show you when they’re all done.  : )

Thank you for sticking with me guys.

Best,

Matt

UPDATE: Next 2 weeks https://scriptaweek.com/update-next-2-weeks/ Thu, 25 Apr 2013 05:43:34 +0000 https://scriptaweek.com/?p=1784 Hey scriptaweek readers,

I’ve decided to postpone a script submission for a few weeks and take my first break in almost a year and a half, because I’m visiting family and also traveling each of the next two weekends.  If you’re dying to read something, I’m sure you can find something in the 60+ submissions on the site.  : )  If you’ve already read them all – wow, you are awesome!

See you guys in a few weeks.

Best,

Matt

UPDATE: 20 Scripts! New post day – Wed. https://scriptaweek.com/20-scripts-also-new-post-day-wednesday/ https://scriptaweek.com/20-scripts-also-new-post-day-wednesday/#comments Sun, 27 May 2012 19:42:43 +0000 https://scriptaweek.com/?p=601 Hey guys,

Can’t believe I made it to 20 scripts!  It’s definitely been an adventure, and I look forward to continuing it.  Thank you for supporting me.  There’s some exciting things coming for scriptaweek.com, including some new features and a new website.  Can’t wait to show them off soon.

In a small update, I’m also changing the post date to Wednesday instead of Tuesday.  After doing Tuesdays for so long, I’ve discovered  it’s just not the best day for my schedule – so I’m going to try out Wednesday.  Somehow it also turned out that I’m traveling each of the next 3 Tuesdays, so I needed to make the change.  It might end up being temporary, so we’ll see how it works out.

6 more scripts, and I’ve done half a year… wow.  Hope to see you then.

UPDATE: 1/4 YEAR DONE! 13 SCRIPTS! https://scriptaweek.com/13scripts/ Wed, 04 Apr 2012 12:12:13 +0000 https://scriptaweek.com/?p=465

Today’s script marks a really big day for me.  3 months ago I started this site, and had no idea if I was going to be able to do it.  Most of the people I told about this site thought it was impossible.  I don’t blame them.  But here I am 3 months later, and I now have 13 scripts in the can.  wow. I’m not going to lie… it’s been very difficult, especially shifting gears each and every week on a new property, but I am extremely happy to officially be 1/4 of the way done on a scriptaweek year.

In a short 3 months, I have knocked out a total of 440 pages.  Or about 5 pages a day since I started. Hard to believe. But it’s only the start….there’s still plenty of work ahead, and I’m not giving up.

In this next phase, I’m looking to add new features, and will continue to expand this site.  I’m extremely thankful to my readers, and especially appreciate your thoughtful emails.  Soon, scriptaweek.com is going to take the next step in launching itself to many more people, and I hope you will all stay along for the ride. Thanks again!

There’s also some exciting news involving the future of a couple of the stories.  I will announce it as soon as I am allowed.

Thank you again for reading, and I look forward to sharing many more stories with you.

WELCOME https://scriptaweek.com/welcome/ Tue, 03 Jan 2012 23:58:03 +0000 http://scriptaweek.wordpress.com/?p=6 Welcome to my website, scriptaweek.com!  Today, at the start of the new year, I begin an ambitious mission to write and publish to the web a new script every week.  It is a daunting challenge, and I do not know if I will be able to meet my goal, but what’s life without trying to do something unique and demanding?

Every Wednesday, I’ll submit a new script, either for film, TV, comic, or a children’s book.  In the future I may tackle other formats such as Video Game or Webisode scripts, as long as it’s a script of a roughly equivalent length for each week.

In that regard and in order to make this year-long journey reasonable, I have a self-imposed structure of what is acceptable of myself to submit on a given Wednesday.  Below are the guidelines, each of which equates to roughly 30 pages:

  • Teleplay for 30 minute TV show, which may include animated
  • First or second half of 1 hour TV show
  • Standard comic issue
    • May also include manga and other graphic novel formats
  • Children’s book
  • 1 of the 4 parts of a standard screenplay
    • 1st Act (roughly 1-30)
    • 1st half of 2nd Act (roughly 31-60)
    • 2nd half of 2nd Act (roughly 61-90)
    • 3rdAct (roughly 91-120)
      • In some cases, like Horror or Comedy, the 3rd act might be much shorter and sometimes end around page 90, and I will accommodate for that in scheduling.

So my expectation is roughly 30 pages per week for the varying formats.  To put that number into perspective, UCLA’s master screenwriting program asks its students to write a full-length screenplay (90-120 pages) in 10 weeks, of which 2 weeks are usually spent developing and structuring the idea.  Under my plan, I’m planning to write 300 pages in those same 10 weeks, and conceivably up to 10 different projects.

This is a lot of work, so you might be thinking there’s going to be far more quantity than quality, but I do believe I can handle this workload without sacrificing quality.  But also please keep in mind these are rough drafts, which are written in one week, and will not be perfect.  Unlike other scripts you will read out there, these have not been edited by family, friends, writing associates, managers, agents, editors or development teams.  These scripts have not received passes for dialogue, character, actor, director, market, etc…  These scripts are literally fresh off the keyboard, works in progress.  Should be fun!

So sit back and enjoy the reads.  I’d love to hear anyone’s feedback, and I would greatly appreciate if you support this site and my goal.  Thanks!
